Who We Are
BSM Review Desk is a small, independent editorial team based in Somerset, in the South West of England. We publish one thing: researched, deposit-tested guidance for UK players looking at casinos that operate outside the UK Gambling Commission's system — the sites usually searched for as casinos not on GamStop or non UK casinos. We are not owned by, invested in, or paid retainers by any casino operator, and no operator has ever seen a review of ours before publication.
The desk has two named editors. Callum Vickery, our lead reviewer, spent eleven years in payment operations before this job and runs the deposit-test and withdrawal-clock stages of every review — with his own money, on his own accounts. Ruth Culliford, our compliance and responsible gambling editor, is a former money-and-debt adviser who reads every operator's full terms before anything is published and owns every safer-gambling word on this site. Their full backgrounds are on the authors page.
What We Actually Do
Every casino we consider goes through the same five stages before it can appear anywhere on this site: a licence check by number against the issuing regulator's public register, a real-money deposit test, a timed withdrawal measured to spendable funds, a complete reading of the bonus and general terms, and a support test with a specific payments question at a UK evening hour. Sites fail out at every stage — roughly one in six failed the licence check alone this year — and the failures never appear on the site as recommendations. The full methodology, including how scores are stepped and what disqualifies a site outright, is documented in our editorial policy.
We write for the reader who is sceptical, and we think that scepticism is correct. This corner of the gambling market has no British regulator standing behind it, which means a reviewer who has not tested a site with real money is decorating guesswork. Ours is a slower way to build a website. It is also the only one we would trust if we were the reader.
How This Site Makes Money
Plainly: affiliate commissions. When a casino appears in our rankings, the link to it is usually an affiliate link, and if you open an account through it the operator pays us a commission. That commission never costs you anything, and — this is the part we are structured around — it never decides a ranking. Rankings come from the test results, operators cannot pay to be listed, cannot pay to move up, and cannot pay to have a caution removed from their review. Where a well-paying operator fails our checks, it does not appear; that has already cost us money this year and will again. The same disclosure appears in our editorial policy and terms.
Where We Stand on Responsible Gambling
The casinos we review sit outside GamStop, and a share of our readers are mid-exclusion. We are direct about this everywhere it matters: we do not recommend gambling during a self-exclusion, we never present offshore play as a workaround, and every money page on this site carries the National Gambling Helpline number — 0808 8020 133, free and open 24 hours. Our full guidance, including the device-level blocking tools that do cover offshore sites, is on the responsible gambling page. This site is for readers aged 18 and over.
